i tested below
Windows XP SP3 +
 *2.4.3rc1 English Version + Japanese Lang Pack
 *3.1.0 Japanese Version
 *3.1.1rc1 English Version + Japanese Lang Pack

when i use spellchecker with word[ (.odt) ] in Calc 
the spellchecker does not finish forever.

when i use it in Writer,it finish in two click
(1.click ignore,2.click ok on finish dialog.) 
it seems work fine.

How to reproduce the bug:
 1).type (.odt) in cell or open the attached sample file.
 2).F7 or Tool->Spellcheck(S) and run Spell check.
 3).high light [(.] and click ignore(I)
 4).high light [dt] and click ignore(I)
 5).you can see the [(.oodt)]in the text box.

it continuously add char[o] if you do 3),4) again
and finish dialog have never come up.

i think it should work same as writer.

Hello foral, *,
I have tested your issue and can confirm it with Germanophone version of
OOO320m18 under Debian SID/Experimental AMD64 ... :( Interesting issue ... ;)
But as soon as you close the spellchecker, the added Os in the spreadsheet
disappear ... And interestingly, if I create a new spreadsheet, enter only
".odt" (where the spellchecker do not find any error) or "odt" (where it finds
the odt), the spellchecker works as expected. It seems, that the brackets change
the handling of the spellchecker ... :(
