Sample document

Using different document templates causes "Merge adjacent line styles" set or unset by default. This is very annoying because having this property unset causes strange side effects, especially when sharing documents with LibreOffice users.

I'm not sure wheter this is a bug or a handling problem. I found no possibility to control the default behavior of the property. Just as litte I'm able to figure out why the property is set or unset depending on the template.

Steps to reproduce:

(1) Open empty Writer document

(2) Insert table

(3) Open "Table Format" dialog box using "Table / Table Properties ...", check box "Merge adjacent line styles" is checked now

(4) Open attached sample document

(5) Insert new table elsewhere

(6) Open "Table Format" dialog box using "Table / Table Properties ...", check box "Merge adjacent line styles" is not checked now

The problem appears on Mac OS X 10.9 with OpenOffice 4.2 revision 1648122 from trunk, but seems to exist in earlier revisions as well as with other operating systems too.

I can at least confirm that the issue exists across operating systems. Testing on Windows 10 with AOO420m1 (Build:9800) - Rev. 1692551 I can replicate the issue following these steps.

1.	Open an empty writer document
2.	Insert a table
3.	Using table / table properties menu and looking under tab Borders shows the “Merge adjacent line styles” box checked as default

4.	Open the document provided in the initial report
5.	Insert a table in that document
6.	Open the table / table properties menu
7.	Looking in the same location, the “Merge adjacent line styles” box is unchecked as default

Having the selection set as default for different document styles instead of the editor itself would be confusing to anyone editing documents provided by different authors. Making the editor control the default setting rather than the document would let editors easily match their tables to the document’s tables, or not if that’s what the editor desires.

Configuration:
Windows 10 (64-bit)
AOO412m3(Build:9782) - Rev. 1709696

Steps to replicate:
1.	Open a new OpenOffice document.
2.	Click “insert” in the taskbar and then go to table.
3.	Use the provided wizard to create a table (size does not matter).
4.	Click into the table as if you were about to write in it.
5.	A menu should come up hovering a few inches from the table.
6.	There is a button towards the bottom right that specifies table properties. Click it.
7.	Click on the “borders” tab
8.	On the bottom right there exists the “Merge adjacent line styles” checkbox, checked by default
9.	Close this document and open the sample document
10.	Repeat steps 2-8 for creating a table and examining the “Merge adjacent line styles” checkbox
11.	It is now unchecked by default

I can confirm this issue still persists in this version. As mentioned, this issue causes a huge pain when viewing and editing documents created by other users. I would like to specifically note that in the sample document, one needs to insert a new table rather than inspect one of the default, pre-existing tables. Those have the checkbox checked by default and can fool a tester into thinking this bug has been fixed (it hasn’t). I did some exploratory testing to try to isolate the cause of the bug to little avail. I mainly was trying to check if the “merge adjacent line styles” setting persists from one table to another in the same document. I created a table, unchecked the box, and created another one below it and examined the setting. It was re-checked by default. I then deleted the tables and created a new one where the original (and unchecked) table was to see if this is a location-based bug. The new table (still) had the setting checked. Strange. The creation and deletion of tables (with or without order) has no effect on the default in the document and there doesn’t seem to be a global setting for this value.
