Description Justin 2015-06-12 01:21:26 UTC
Using OO 4.1.1 64-bit on OSX 10.10.3

Opened the document on another Mac (OO 4.0.0 64-bit on OSX 10.7.5), no issue

Hoefler Text will not display properly, it appears as a blocky sans-serif font. When bold or italics, Hoefler displays properly

Will try rolling back OO to previous versions

OO 4.1.0 64-bit on OSX 10.10.3: Same issue

OO 4.0.1 32-bit on OSX 10.10.3: No issue, font displays correctly

Commented by Raminta Rimkune, 08-04-2016:
I was not able to reproduce the issue with the following setup:

OS: Mac OS X 10.11.4 (MacBook Pro, Retina screen)
Open Office Writer: 4.1.0, 4.1.2

1. I wrote text "Test Hoefler font" with the following fonts:
    - PT Sans Caption
    - Hoefler
    - DejaVu Serif
    - Hiragino Sans GB
    - Microsoft Sans Serif
    - MS Reference Sans Serif
    - Times New Roman

2. These fonts have been applied in three different ways:
    - from the top Font drop-down menu
    - from the right hand Properties menu, Font drop-down menu
    - from the top bar menu: Format > Character > Font

3. Other settings like font size, Formatting settings were the same

4. I also tried to apply Typeface to the selected fonts (listed in 1.)
    - Italic
    - Bold

5. In addition I tried to set Size to:
    - 8
    - 12
    - 18

6. In all these tests described above Hoefler font looked differently from other fonts under test.

Hello,

Tested again with 4.1.2 and El Capitan 10.11.5, issue persists

Hoefler Text displays as a random sans-serif font

Though bold and italics display properly

Configuration information:
- Win 7 Ultimate, 64-bit OS; OpenOffice AOO412m3(Build:9782)  -  Rev. 1709699
- OS X 10.12.1 (Sierra); OpenOffice 4.1.0 and 4.1.3

I was able to reproduce on OS X 10.12.1 both 4.1.0 and 4.1.3 OO versions. Did not reproduced on Windows 10.

====== Specific description of steps:
1. Since Hoefler Text font(s) - regular, italic, black are already installed on OS X, open preview of font from Font book collection of fonts.
2. Write same text in Writer file using Hoefler, PT Sans or other sans fonts.

====== Follow-up tests I made:
- I tried a couple of sans-serif fonts (DejaVu Sans Mono, Gill Sans, Hiragino Sans, Microsoft Sans Serif, PT Sans,) in order to determine which one is similar with how Hoefler font is displayed.
- Also, I tried a couple of serif fonts (DejaVu Serif, PT Serif) to see difference between what is currently applied when using font Hoefler and these serif fonts.
- I used Hoefler text font in LibreOffice 5.2.2. to observe whether font is applied as in preview of font.

====== Description of what happened:
- As can be observed in images attached (with bug reproducing on OO 4.1.0 and 4.1.3.), Hoefler looks similar (regarding shape of letters, missing ‘serifs’) with PT Sans, except the space between words is bigger for ‘Hoefler’ and also letters size (although font size used is same, 12).
- Also, compared with the preview of font (in TTC format and also TTF format I installed afterwards), the difference between preview and actual text with font Hoefler is visible.
- The fact that font Hoefler is applied correctly (is serif) in LibreOffice is an argument to fact that OS renders font properly, but application that uses it is responsible for misbehaviour.

====== Specific description of failure:
Font Hoefler text is not applied as in preview of font installed. Words that have Hoefler applied seem to have PT Sans font applied.

====== Notes:
- I have validated Hoefler font Regular following https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201749 No warnings were presented.
- Font is installed in /Library/Fonts/ according to https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201722 this is recommended location for fonts shared among applications, so I would exclude inappropriate installation of font.
- Additionally, I attached file with sample text I used.
- I searched for similar ticket in bugzilla, but was not able to find something relevant with this one.
