Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 16730
Enhance page styles to allow graphical elements like water marks
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
Enhance page styles 1. to allow page styles be based on an other page style in the same way as paragraph styles do. 2. to allow graphical elements like lines, water marks, crop marks and others on each page formatted with this page style. The layout elements should not be restricted to specific positions. The goal is to be able to repeat graphical elements automatically on more than one page f.e. letters with basic layout elements such as a watermark, fold marks, the logo... on every page. Plus the fist page that has the same elements and the address field. Crop marks ("Beschnittmarken"; marks to cut the printed paper to the desired book size) or "fold marks" (marks to fold f.e. a letter) should be generated automatically by activating an appropriate option field. Positions of crop marks shouldt depend on page size (f.e. DIN A4) and the desired book size, i.e. "text size including margins". Position of fold marks are defined by DIN.

While it is not possible (with OOo 1.1.0) to insert graphics or frames into the header and have them exceeding the header borders in general, this does, however, work with a textbox. So if you are able to create your logo with a textbox, insert it into the header (and make sure it´s anchored to the header) and place it onto the page where you need it. See the attachment of Issue 16183 for an example.
Addendum to my last comment: Have reopened Issue 16138 since, although the textbox shows on every page even in Print Preview, it doesn´t print.

Crop marks are desirable. Maybe it make OOo a concurrent for Adobe Pagemaker and other DTP applications. M$ Word don't have crop marks, a leak point can be explored here. I use OOo Writer to edit books and crop marks are very usefull.
Surprisingly, I found only five issues on this. I guess it is more of a DTP requirement than a Word-processing requirement. However, people do use OpenOffice for DTP, so this feature would be very useful. If PDF/X1 standard prepress features could be added to PDF output too, this would be a great feature. Crop marks, registrations marks, densitometer bar, colour calibration bar, and file information are all available in Page Plus.
