Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 30530
add possibility to accept apostrophe as first letter of a word
Last modified: 2013-02-24 20:42:32 UTC
For Tahitian or maybe any others languages, the are words the begin with apostrophe. example : 'aito means champion ; 'amu means to eat... (You can have a look on Tahitian words at http://www.farevanaa.pf/forum/) Words which begin with apostrophe seems to be accepted in MySpell files, and those words are proposed in OOo by the spellchecker. But, when correcting, the OOo spellchecker doesn't include the apostrophe which start the word. So, in OOo spellchecker, an option for include apostrophe as first letter of word would be a good thing. This option could be extended to any symbols, and for the end of word (if exists). PS : Maybe I didn't exploit all possibilities of the affix file of MySpell.
A suggestion (but I'm not convinced with it) : In Spellchek/Options, add an option for checking words which begin with an apostrophe (U+0027) (or any other symbol). Nota : In hawaian language, some words also begins with apostrophe, but with another glyphs of apostrophe (the official one seems U+02BB). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/‘okina, http://www.olelo.hawaii.edu/
I know at least one Italian word that start with the apostrophe: 'ndrangheta (note that ndrangheta is wrong) If I insert this word into the dictionary, than 'ndrangheta e ndrangheta are marked as wrong words. If I insert the word ndrangheta in the dictionary, than 'ndrangheta e ndrangheta are marked as correct words (this is the solution for the actual Italian dictionary). For sure in ancient Italian languages there are a lot of these words
