Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 40492
cross-references to objects should point to the objects themselves and not the caption
Last modified: 2014-03-21 14:29:36 UTC
To make a link to an object, for example a picture, one can use cross-references or hyperlinks. To make a cross-reference to an object, you follow this procedure: To set the target: -Right click on object --> Caption -Enter the text for the Caption To set the cross-reference: -Menu -->insert cross-reference -select the object. This way, the target you cross-reference is the caption "number" and not the object itself. An obvious disadvantage is that when referencing large objects, such as large tables, following the link gets you to the bottom of the object, not the beginning (assuming that the caption is positioned below the object). In my opinion, when following the link, the object should be positioned on top of the screen. (It becomes really annoying when exporting to PDF on pre 2.0 versions. When following the cross-reference, you end up with the caption in the first line and miss the object!) The solution of using hyperlinks, which point to the object, cannot offer the automatic field updating. A partial solution: One could create a hyperlink on a cross-reference. When following this link by single-clicking, you target the caption. Following it by right-click-->open hyperlink, you target the object.
