Description jeanweber 2005-07-04 04:42:19 UTC
When using a custom list (numbering) style, if I set the first item of the first
numbered list in a document to restart at 1, the setting is lost when the file
is saved, closed and reopened.

In a stand-alone document, this usually does not matter, but when the document
is the second or later subdocument in a master document, and a previous subdoc
contains a numbered list, it creates a problem, because the first item of the
first numbered list in any subdoc continues the numbering from the last numbered
list in the previous subdoc that contained a numbered list.

I will attach a zip file containing a sample master document and two chapters.
Notice that the first numbered list in Chapter 2 starts with the number 3, and
the last numbered list in Chapter 1 ended with number 2.

This behaviour did not occur if I simply clicked the "Numbering On/Off" button
on the toolbar and did not use a custom list style. I will attach a second zip
file containing a sample master doc and 2 subdocs done using the default
numbered list.

Second attachment (id=27678) should have comment "Master doc + subdocs showing
list numbering OK in chapter 2 when built-in style used".

MRU->HBRINKM: when having a numbered list based on a list style and setting the
FIRST paragraph of the list to "restart at 1", this won't be saved in the file
format. This has essential affect on the handling of master documents.
Comment 5 jeanweber 2006-11-05 20:58:52 UTC
This appears to be working correctly in 2.0.4.
Comment 6 leiflodahl 2010-01-19 14:27:42 UTC
This is still a problem (3.1.0 on Windows)

The first numbering can not keep the reset flag if numbered using numbering
style. The reset flag is missing after saving/closing the document.

If the numbering becomes the second numbering in the document, it is possible to
reset numbering in a way that stays.

from content.xml:
First list always is: <text:list-item>
Following lists are: <text:list-item text:start-value="1">

I can only reproduce when lists are made with numbering styles - not default
numbering.

If you need more example files, please say so.

cc. my self.

I can confirm that this problem exists in 3.2 RC3. If it was fixed at some
point, it is no longer fixed.

This is a major problem for people using custom styles and either master
documents on sections linking external files into a main file, including those
of us putting together the OOo user guides from individual chapter files.

I see this problem on WindowsXP and on Ubuntu 9.10.

workaround:
The problem occurs only in the first paragraph in the first numbered list.

So you can create a hidden section in top of each document and assign a
numbering style to the paragraph. That way you can isolate the problem to a
hidden area in the document.

Dirty workaround? Yes, but it actually works!

Reset assigne to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org".
