Description rlwycndr 2005-10-03 03:13:14 UTC
When applying a style, such as Heading 1, to a paragraph at the bottom of the
page, the "keep with next paragraph" option is not applied, until after the
paragraph is editted. This results in the paragraph staying at the bottom of
the page, rather than jumping to the top of the next page.

To reproduce:
1. Open a new text document.
2. Make a simple one-line paragraph (I used the word "paragraph"). Press enter.
3. Press F11 to open Stylist. Double-click on "Text Body" to apply the "Text
Body" style to it.
4. Duplicate this paragraph by copy and paste (I changed my numbers to keep them
unique) until more than one page is used.
5. Append a number to each paragraph to make it unique.
6. Place the cursor in the bottom paragraph of the first page.
7. Double-click on the Heading 1 style to apply it. NOTE that this paragraph
does not "keep with next". One expects it to jump to the next page. This
happens only after an edit is made in this paragraph. I even tried saving,
closing, and re-opening the file.

I tested this defect with OpenOffice.org1.1.5 on both Linux (Slackware, kernel
v2.6.12) and Windows 2000.

I have tried this on Linux (Slackware) with OOo version 2.0RC1, and the "keep
with next" does work as expected when the heading 1 style is applied.

More Info: When I follow the steps described in the original description,
version 2.0RC1 behaves as expected.

However, when I open the test file saved by version 1.1.5, the Paragraph with
"Keep with next" remains at the bottom of the previous page. i.e it did not
stay with the next paragraph as expected. I right-clicked on this paragraph,
and chose Paragraph->Text Flow. The "Keep with next" check box is checked, but
the paragraph is not with the next one.

I did not experience the problem with OO 2.0. Could you please attach the sample
document if you still encounter the problem with OO 2.0? Feel free to reopen
this issue when you have done so.
Thanks for supporting us!

Comment 6 rlwycndr 2005-10-20 14:29:45 UTC
I have submitted my test document. As I noted in a previous post, when creating
the test document in 2.0, the bug does not occur. However, when opening the
test document created in 1.1.5, the "keep with next" does not occur. Note: this
does narrow the scope of this bug.

MRU->FME: with the attached document, this is reproducable in some font
configurations, I guess. I was only able to reproduce this on a SUSE Linux 9.2
but not on Windows.
At thw bottom of page one you can see a Heading 1 paragraph which should keep to
its follow. Opening Format.Paragraph dialog and leaving with OK will correct it.

I have this problem on Windows 2000 with OpenOffice 2.0. The test file acts as
described - when opened, the Heading 1 is stranded at the bottom of the first
page. If I right click and open <paragraph>, do nothing and close with OK, the
Heading 1 migrates correctly to the next page. If I close the <paragraph> with
Cancel, the Heading 1 remains where it is. I have the same behaviour with other
fonts and styles.
