Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 57121
Problem with column widths after merging cells in a table
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:21:51 UTC
I created a new table in any empty document with 20 rows and nine columns. I merged rows 3,4 & 5, and 6,7 & 8 together in the top row I merged rows 1 & 2 in the 1st column, and again in the 2nd column and again in the 9th column. I entered some title text I then tried to set my column widths to my requirements - which are : (excluding the top row) Column 1 + 2 = 3.5cm Columns 3 thru 8 1.8cm Column 9 - the rest. However by the time I had got to column 3, the column widths seemed to be badly and irretrievably broken. The only way to change a column width appear to be to change it row by individual row. It appears to be impossible to align columns 8 and 9 across the rows. Everything seems broken and any attempts to improve things just makes matters worse and worse. Having got into this mess once, I wiped my work and started again - and rapidly got into exactly the same mess. SO I decided to report the bug and see if I could recreate it again. I could. If I can find out how I will attach the resulting file. Otherwise you can email me for it andrew@teledesign.co.uk

MRU->OS: open attached document and set the values for the column width as described Column 1 + 2 = 3.5cm Columns 3 thru 8 1.8cm Column 9 - the rest will not be applied correctly to the table.
Target adjusted
I'm attaching another test case. Open it, select all columns and then apply the column uniform width option. See what happens at columns 6&7. Tested with OOo 2.0.4 RC3

The problem still exists in OOO300m9. 1. Create a new text document. 2. Insert a 3 column by 3 row table. 3. Merge the 1st and 2nd columns of the 2nd row. 4. Split the now-2nd cell of the 2nd row vertically into 2. 5. Select the entire 1st row and change the column widths to 1", 1", 4.93". This works correctly. 6. Now try to do the same with the 2nd row. Instead of 1", 1", 4.93", you get 2", 0.31", 4.62". 7. Set the column widths a second time. This time it works.
