Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 58193
[DE] old spelling "Cotangens" in "Auswahl" window
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:00:01 UTC
I have found out, that - if you move your mouse to "cot" - the quickhelp says "Cotangens". According to www.duden.de it is "Kotangens".
I checked with “2.0 German version WIN XP: [680m3(Build8968)]” and found the correct "Kotangens" in the tooltipp for "cot(x)". @thackert How exactly did you get the wrong text?
1. Move your mouse to the "Auswahl" window 2. look for the "cot" there 3. Move your cursor to the "cot" 4. My tooltip/quickhelp (from 680m136) says "Cotangens" instead of "Kotangens"

Rainer, you're using extendet-tips, whereas this issue is about regular (short) tooltip.
Yes, this problem only is visible with unselected "extended tips", pls. see screenshots "screenshots_for_normal_tips.png". The speelling in "extended tips" is in accordance to current "new" german orthography. I prefer the "old" spelling, because it is not very logical to have a word "Kosinus" for the formula symbol "cos", so I normally would select priority "5", but of course, OOo should use a uniform way in all help, so "4". It seems that in "normal tooltips" OOo generally uses the old spelling and in "Help" and "Extended Tooltips" the new spelling.
Changed component
Created attachment 31653 [details] screenshot showing that spelling differs in "normal tooltips"
back to formula-editor since the german tooltips are neither part of onlinehelp nor l10n framework.
TM->OC: Please have a look, thanks !

pls check all spellings of trigonometric functions in german source code of Math
MRU->UFI: the ToolTip for Cotangens must be adapted to Kotangens for German version. The extended Tip shows it correctly.
tooltips are part of source code, not part of online help
I would disagree. If you go to www.duden.de and look vor Cosinus and Cotangans both entries are found (e.g. "Co|si|nus vgl. →Kosinus") that means that both words are actually allowed as well, only that for the description you should look up under the other writing style. And if you use www.langenscheidt.de both entries are known as well and already have a description available without looking at the other writing. And because of the meaning of the first three letters in Kotangens I would always prefer the writing with C instead of K. Please feel free to comment.
@tl: I also prefer writing "Cosinus" because it's similar to the function abbreviation "cos". If "Duden" accepts both writings, we should use the "mathematical" one "Cosinus". Most important is to have it uniform in complete OOo
Setting component to "formula editor" in order to find this issue with Math specific queries.
@ Andre can you please look. Is it now part of the translation?
tl->mechtilde: if you mean the tip-help that appears under the mouse pointer, that one is and always was part of the translation. But the text that gets inserted in the command window is not...
