Hello,
in some cases, it's desirable to have an image caption attached to the left or
right of the image instead of underneath it, and also maybe some more text than
just one line. Please add that functionality.

The Issue you raised is currently assigned to 'Requirements' pending review, but
has not been updated within the last 2+ years. Please consider re-testing with
one of the latest versions of OOo, as the problem(s) may have already been
addressed. Either use the recent stable version:

Issue still valid though there is a way to achieve it:

captions are frames around the image only. Select the image while not having 
selected the caption first (come from the normal text for example). Reduce its 
size: You'll see that you get space around the image for the caption. Change 
the flow (right-click context menu -> flow) to continuous flow or sth like that 
(sorry, haven't got the english expression at hand). Now you see that the 
caption text starts at the top of the caption frame. Enter as many blank lines 
as you like, multiple lines are no problem as of OOo 3.0 Beta m2.
