Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 59360
Fill characters in index/tables
Last modified: 2014-04-10 05:56:59 UTC
Win XP, OOo 1.1.5 and 2.0.1 RC4: When inserting a table of content, the entries are formatted with the styles contents 1,2... If you change the style f.e. Contents 1, Tabs, Fill characters None, nothing happens. If you assign the style anew, then the fill characters disappear, but come back, when you update the table. Only if you change the tab in "Insert index/table, Entries", the change is "permanent". This is a severe break in the concept of styles and formatting.
Reassigned to ES.
No, that's the way it works. The settings in the TOC dialog overwrite those of the paragraph style concerning for example the tabs settings. Other settings will be preserved.

I know, that it works like this. It is NOT necessary, to overwrite tabs in the paragraph style by means of the TOC dialog. So, regard it as an enhancement request to remove this "feature".

Why the index properties should override the style properties? It defeats the point of using styles and it reduces the possibilities. See: http://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=58427 No custom character can be used in the tab fill character.

(In reply to Edwin Sharp from comment #8) > Please attach example. Win 7 Pro x64, AOO 4.1.0 RC2 Here a little text file. In the "Inhaltsverzeichnis" you have a first line "Heading 1" without fill characters, because I formatted it with the style Contents 1 which I changed to "no fill chars". Update the table. The fill chars are again there.
